If you hit up every shop selling sweets on Banff Avenue you could surely slip into a sugar induced coma. There is a something to satisfy whatever your sweet tooth is craving. If you’re looking for something to take back home several shops have items unique to Canada, such as maple candies or bear paw shaped chocolates.
The Fudgery
This is one of the most noticeable places on Banff Avenue. The seducing scent of fudge will reach out and grab you well before you see the shop. In addition to endless fudge choices they have chocolate truffles and brittle made on site daily. The best part is watching the fudge being made through the glass window.
Banff Sweet Shoppe
The Banff Sweet Shoppe is just a bit further down Banff Avenue on the same side as the Fudgery. They have selections of old time candy that you may not have seen in years, fizzies, Pez, wax lips, bubble gum cigars and other hard to find candy from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s.
Banff Candy Store
On the other side of the street there is yet another candy store called Welches. A Canadian Family has been running this business since 1965. The walls are chock full of candy, we’ve been in it many times and have yet to see everything. There are a lot of bulk items, dutch licorice and other imported candies from around the world. A second store is located in Waterton National Park in southern Alberta.
Cows Creamery
Cows first began making vanilla ice cream in 1983 at its Cavendish Boardwalk store in Prince Edward Island, it has since expanded across Canada. It is made with high butterfat milk and only the finest ingredients, such as pure vanilla from Madagascar, quality Dutch cocoa powder, and fresh strawberries. In the summer months the line up to get one of the hand made waffle cones can be out the door. In addition to the 32 plus flavours of ice cream the shop has a range of cow-themed T-shirts and souvenirs. Cow’s Banff Canada
Beaver Tails
A fairly newcomer to the street is Beaver Tails. These are pastry delights are served hot and smothered in toppings of your choice, and of course shaped like the tail of Canada’s national animal, the beaver. Beaver Tails
